This is one area on the Maumee where they are seperating the sewers.

There are 4 of these total - 2 on the south side of the sidewalk (A)

Seed and erosion control techniques (or Best Management Practices) need to be instilled in this area

...and 2 on the north side of the sidewalk (further away from the Maumee River (B)

The diameter of this area is approx. 20 ft. wide (A)

Exposed barren soil is not good so close to the river! (A)

The diameter of this one (B) is approximately 15 ft wide!

This is a huge flock of Canadian Geese in mid January 2009

The left side (north side) of the Maumee River is where our restoration projects occur

WOW - Canadian Geese are considered a major contributor to E. Coli in our waters...besides the CSO's

I read they can poop up to 4 lbs /day!

This summer Fort Wayne raised up their dams for removal of rubbish around bridges and to check them

This is an example of the sediment you find at the bottom of the St. Mary's

Location

St. Mary's Bridge on W. Main St.

Hydraulic fluid leaked from the local contractors equipment

This is what still remains of the spill 2 weeks later (Photo taken 8/26/08)

Tires were also left there

Polluted sediment

The contractors appologized for the spill and it still lays there...to be washed into the St. Mary's

Retention ponds next to Omni Source - a panoramic pic

The retention pond of discharge of water from Omni source just feet from the swollen Maumee River during the spring of 2008

This is also the 46803 lung cancer zone area

Different colors of smoke fill the neighborhoods around Omni Source burning

Scrap yard hundreds of feet from the Maumee River

Tires pulled out by Bruce Allen - Master's of Earth Literacy and Master Naturalist

One full day's worth of work

styrofoam and plastic are always found on our riverbanks

Storm sewer drain...whatever you put down a stormdrain or your toilet...truly ends up in our waterways! BE CAREFUL

Condoms and tampons spew into the river with as little as 1/10th an inch of rain

Duck weed everywhere is a sign of too much nutrients (sewage/fertilizer)

Straight pipes sprinkle the view from local businesses

Look closely, you can see 2

EPA allows approx 5 CSO discharges/year and Ft. Wayne is fixing their infrastructure so they dont have the average 71/year

This is what a CSO discharge looks like...and what the city is fixing.

At least cancer trends are on their way DOWN!

Pulled from the St. Mary's river from another river clean-up - upstream
