What exactly does Abby do?I wanted you to understand my work experience in more detail, rather than just how my education portrays me. I founded Save Maumee Grassroots Organization in early 2005 because I saw a lack of concern for Fort Wayne’s Three Rivers, the Maumee being of least concern. Save Maumee Grassroots Organization is dedicated to finding an alternate disposal method to strait-pipe discharge and combined sewer overflows, while beginning education programs aimed at the importance of water and pollution reduction. I have educated myself since 2000 about the current and past situation of point source pollution and non-point source pollution and the effects on Fort Wayne’s Three Rivers. I have organized Earth Day annually. In 2006 I gathered 60 volunteers who planted 250 lbs of riparian seed and picked up garbage on the riverbanks. The main seed planted is an Indian Grass (mixed with annual rye and barley) that matures after 5 years and can live through drought or flood while giving shelter to animals, helping dissolved oxygen in the water and stabilizing soil. We also raised enough money to buy 50 spicebush plants for the Maumee riverbanks. In 2007 our volunteers numbered about 100 and I raised enough fundraising money for 5,400 sq ft of Geo-Jute. Erosion Control Mats or "Geo-Jute" is used to secure new seeds and allow them to root and not be washed-away in high water. These mats also help to control erosion and sedimentation. Check out the pictures of our success on the Free Downloads Section marked Restoration Pictures I am familiar with
fundraising, grant writing, and technical analysis of documents. I have read
several books on grant writing and besides feeling confident to write one, I am
able to find available grants. I have single-handedly promoted my program,
raised funds and had supplies donated to my projects on my “good word” alone!
I am familiar with local and regional programs and personally know many people
who are involved in promoting river health. I love to talk to people,
especially about something I feel so passionate about, so I enjoy securing new
help for a good cause! I develop a natural rapport quickly and easily
with others due to my confidence and demeanor, even in stressful situations! The environment is my life’s work and an opportunity to earn an income by serving Mother Nature would be my choice career of a lifetime. I have invested an enormous amount of time, energy and money to the cause and would like to see my efforts compensated in some way...So if you need me, just let me know! Sincerely, Abigail Frost
